SMART LIGHTING DESIGN
Lighting Changes everything.
Lighting isn’t just about brightness. It’s the lens through which you see every finish, every texture, and every detail in your home.
Get it wrong, and even the best materials fall flat. Get it right, and everything improves.

Glare – Less is More
The lower the real-world glare of your lighting, the more comfortable it will be to live with. One of the simplest ways to reduce glare is to choose fittings where the light source is recessed deeper into the housing and out of direct sight. If your ceiling cavity allows for additional depth, always opt for deeper-recessed fittings.
Do not rely solely on UGR (Unified Glare Rating) numbers. In reality, many lighting designers don’t fully understand how UGR is defined or calculated. While industry guidelines suggest that a UGR below 19 is considered acceptable, we have seen countless fittings rated under 19 that are still uncomfortably bright and glary. The most reliable approach is to see the fitting in person—visit a showroom, view the light at eye level, and experience the actual glare before making your purchase decision.

Efficiency – Power of IOT
A lighting system designed for efficiency doesn’t just benefit the environment—it also makes your home’s lighting far more flexible and comfortable. Wherever possible, we recommend placing lights on dimmable circuits. Dimming provides multiple benefits: it reduces energy consumption, extends the life of your fittings, and lets you fine-tune the brightness to suit the mood or task.
Smart control adds another layer of efficiency. Light sensors and time-based schedules can automatically adjust dimming levels throughout the day to minimise unnecessary energy use. For example, daylight harvesting uses sensors to detect natural light and reduce artificial lighting when daylight is sufficient. Occupancy sensors can trigger lights only when a room is in use, avoiding wasted energy. Time-of-day automation within a smart home system can also ensure lights run at the lowest required levels, creating a seamless, efficient, and comfortable lighting experience.

Lighting – Lens Through Which You See Everything
It’s surprising how many homeowners spend tens of thousands on premium flooring, designer kitchens, luxury furniture, and high-end appliances—yet when it comes to lighting, they install cheap $5 pancake-style SMD downlights that completely undermine the look and feel of their home.
Poor-quality lighting makes everything look cheaper: the colours look flat, textures disappear, and the entire space feels harsh or uncomfortable. The truth is, lighting is the lens through which you see every dollar you’ve invested in your home.
A high-end oven might cost $5,000, but for a fraction of that cost you can elevate your entire home with proper, well-designed lighting. Quality lighting doesn’t just brighten a room—it transforms it, enhances every finish, and makes your investment truly shine.

CRI – It Make Things Look Right
When choosing lighting for your home, one of the most important—but often overlooked—factors is the Colour Rendering Index (CRI). CRI measures how accurately a light source reveals the true colours of objects compared to natural daylight. The higher the CRI, the more faithfully colours appear under artificial light. Choosing lights with a high CRI ensures that everything—from your artwork and furniture to the fabrics and finishes in your home—looks natural, vibrant, and true to life.
Poor-quality lights with a low CRI can make even the most expensive décor appear dull or off-colour. Investing in lighting with a high CRI transforms your space, enhances every detail, and gives you a more comfortable, visually pleasing environment that truly reflects the beauty of your home.
